A specialist residential service in North Lincolnshire, which offers ‘innovative and flexible support’ to young people is celebrating after being rated as outstanding by the Care Quality Commission.
An unannounced inspection was carried out at Options Watermill House in November 2015, and a report has been released this week rating the service as outstanding overall.
Options Watermill House is the second Options service to be awarded an outstanding CQC rating in recent months. Options Roxby House was also given the top mark in November 2015.
Options Watermill House, in Brigg, South Humberside, offers specialist person-centred care and opportunities for personal development for up to 10 younger people with autistic spectrum conditions, associated complex needs and challenging behaviours. The service shares a site with Options Watermill Lodge, and has been developed extensively to meet the needs of the individuals in its care. The site includes the main house, a separate purpose built bungalow, a newly developed lodge and an independent modern log cabin.
Options Watermill House is part of the Options journey of care. The pathway is unique within the sector and offers support to individuals at any stage of their life. Whilst some of Options services are set up to focus on longer term care they continually invest in the children, young people and adults in their care to ensure positive progression throughout their lives.
On site facilities at Options Watermill include a large enclosed garden, with swings and seesaws, a hydro pool and a soft indoor activity space.
Speaking of the report, Debbie Westhead, CQC deputy chief inspector for Adult Social Care in the North, said: “Options Watermill House has an excellent leadership team that was involved in sharing and developing best practice, it was clear people were at the heart of the service.
“What struck us the most was how much time and effort went into adapting the service to better care for people’s changing needs, and also the support given to people’s families. Everyone at Options Watermill House should feel proud of the work they do.
“It is for this and many other reasons why the service has received the highest rating we can give.”
Helen Horsewood, registered manager of Options Watermill, said: “I am absolutely ecstatic that we have received an outstanding rating and I am very proud of the whole team. I may be the one who makes the decisions, but it is not just me, I have a brilliant team of staff who all do an excellent job.”
Speaking of their recent inspection rating, head of adult autism service for Options, Russell Leese, said: “We’re incredibly proud of the whole team at Options Watermill House and the recent CQC inspection rating. This is the second outstanding rating we have recently received for our services in North Lincolnshire and it is recognition for the excellent work undertaken by our staff to ensure the best outcomes possible for the young people we support.”
